Chapter 371 - 364: She’s Such a Jinx

Theodore Quinn sat on the sofa, stern and composed, a stark contrast to his wife, Sienna Hale. She had been bustling about joyfully ever since their son, Seth Quinn, called that morning to say he was bringing Clara Grant home. Maintaining the dignified air of the Family Head, he glanced at his wife, cleared his throat twice, and said in a deep voice, "Sienna, try to be a little more composed. Our daughter-in-law is just coming over. Look how excited you are."

Although he did his best to sound stern, he couldn’t quite conceal the joy in his tone.

Sienna Hale glanced at him, not bothering to call him out for being just as eager for their daughter-in-law’s visit despite his pretense of being stern and reserved. A smile played on her lips as she said:

"Of course I’m excited about our daughter-in-law visiting. For one thing, this is the first time Seth has ever brought a girl home, aside from Autumn Shelby. Besides, with how cold he is toward women, I’m just thankful to God that he’s managed to bring a wife home in my lifetime.

Originally, Seth said they had a secret marriage and needed to keep it under wraps. I thought it would be ages before our daughter-in-law would ever visit, but I never expected that after just over a month, they’re already preparing to go public. This means that before long, we might be able to hold our grandchildren."

Sienna Hale grew more and more excited as she spoke. Theodore Quinn seemed to get caught up in her excitement, a barely perceptible smile touching his usually stern face.

But it vanished in an instant as he said dismissively, "Holding grandchildren before long? My dear, you’re getting ahead of yourself. You have to remember, Clara hasn’t even graduated from college yet."

"So what if she hasn’t graduated? Who says you can’t get married and have children before you finish college? Aren’t there plenty of stories in the news about college students doing just that?

Besides, if they do have a child, then who cares if she doesn’t graduate? Our family already overlooked her background, so why would we care if she has a degree?"

"You, my dear, are just desperate for a grandchild."

Just as they were speaking, Mrs. Cheney came running back from the main gate, looking quite out of breath. "S-Sir... M-Ma’am... it’s... it’s..."

Mrs. Cheney had always been a steady person, so seeing her like this was odd.

But Sienna Hale didn’t think much of it. She stood up, looked toward the door, and asked, "What is it? What’s all the panic about? Have the young master and the young mistress arri..."

Before the last word could leave her lips, she saw the person standing at the door. Her voice died in her throat, her eyes widening in utter shock.

Seeing her suddenly fall silent, a puzzled Theodore Quinn shifted his gaze to the door. And then, he too saw the person standing there.

Even a man as imperturbable as him lost his composure and shot to his feet. ’Autumn Shelby?!’

’When did she get back? No, that’s not the point. She’s no longer Seth Quinn’s fiancée and has nothing to do with the Quinn Family anymore. Whether she comes back or when she comes back is meaningless to the Quinn Family and to Seth.’

’The point is, what is she doing here?’

As they both stared, Autumn Shelby slowly raised a foot to step over the threshold.

"Stop right there!" Theodore Quinn’s voice boomed as he frowned at her raised foot.

Autumn Shelby immediately lowered the foot she had just raised.

Theodore Quinn’s shout snapped Sienna Hale back to her senses. She stared at Autumn Shelby, a single thought running through her mind. ’I really jinxed it. For the first time in over a year, I couldn’t resist mentioning her name, and then she just appears!’

"Autumn Shelby? What are you doing here?" Facing the woman who had vanished for over a year only to suddenly reappear, Sienna Hale’s tone was anything but friendly.
